Links for the Lusophile: Week of 09 Jan. 2012

This week's links are in Portuguese and English.

Perhaps as a sign of the economic times, Rio de Janeiro's Livraria Camões, which specializes in literature from Portugal is slated to close this month. Reactions have included the signing of a petition by well-known writers.

On a completely different note, I couldn't help but notice that Loulé is holding a Troika and Crisis carnival in February. You have to hand it to them for making lemonade with the lemons that they are handed.

A traveller on a budget has found his way to Trás-os-Montes. He witnesses a butchering of a pig, late season harvesting and some traditional cooking. This is part of a series that included a visit to the university town of Coimbra.

Fundação Sousa Mendes is currently looking for people or descendants of people who were directly aided (given visas) during the Second World War by Aristide Sousa Mendes.  Here is the press release with information.
